Detroit City of Hope Calendar and Updates

Detroit City of Hope (www.dcoh.org) will be sharing announcements of events on a weekly basis. We urge you to continue to check for updates on the DCOH website calendar as well as continue to send us links to your community building work in our region and fliers of events you know about or may be hosting.

**First and foremost, DCOH will be having its monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 19th, at 6:30pm at the Boggs Center (3061 Field St.) In addition to organizational matters, the discussion will explore
urban agriculture, corporate farming, and community building. With interest in corporate farming on the rise, it is imperative that we as a community respond to its potentially detrimental impact on community building and community health. Therefore, DCOH has invited several community food security activists to participate in our discussion and share their thoughts/actions in working towards creating greater food parity and healthy communities.

More events are included in the attached flier with specific dates, times, and places. Please mark your calendar with this information so you remember to attend. A short synopsis of these events is provided below:

Hello to all new beekeepers and wanna Bees!
Classes for beginning beekeepers or those who just want to learn more, start:
 
Sunday, February 22, 2009
1:00 pm at
Cathrine Ferguson Academy
2750 Selden, north of Mack at about 18th st.
 
There are lots of people who have expressed an interest, class size will be limited to 20 people, first come first serve. Class Fee $60.00. for 6 sessions or $15 ea. Classes run 3 hours once a month between February and September.

This class will give you all the basics you will need to successfully and confidently start your own hive. Our schedule follows the bee year and will cover everything from building boxes and frames to installing packages, opening hives, extraction and bottling.
