These groups have identified themselves as organizations/individuals that share the vision and values of Detroit City of Hope and/or the Transforming Grief into Hope event.

This slideshow will feature pictures and logos from the organizations in the Network of Hope. 

Allied Media Conference July 16-19, 2009

 

The Allied Media Conference cultivates media strategies for a more just and creative world. Held every June in Detroit, MI, it is the primary point of intersection in the U.S. for alternative media makers and committed social justice activists from around the country.

 

Allies for Change

 

Allies for Change provides anti-oppression education, training, and resources for individuals and organizations committed to social change. Believing that justice work is deeply spiritual work, our programs invite participants to sharpen their tools for structural change while enlarging their capacities for compassion, hope, and joy.

 

American Indian Health & Family Services of SE MI

 

The mission of AIHFS is to help ensure the survival of Native families and individuals by providing acceptable quality health care and by supporting the healing process. We encourage, educate and empower our clients as they seek and maintain wellness, and as they enhance the quality of their lives. We facilitate the quality and accessibility of comprehensive health care for the Native American community.

 

Avalon International Breads

 

Detroit Summer is a multi-racial, inter-generational collective in Detroit, working to transform ourselves and our communities by confronting the problems we face with creativity and critical thinking. We currently organize youth-led media arts projects and community-wide potlucks, speak-outs and parties.

 

Catherine Ferguson Academy

 

The Catherine Ferguson Academy is a Detroit public high school for pregnant teens and teenage mothers. Paul Weertz, the agriscience teacher at the academy, has developed a small farming program at the school, complete with chickens, bees, rabbits, goats,a cow and a barn constructed by the students. This innovative program has helped foster important life skills for young parents and enhanced an sense of connectedness and purpose among students.

 

Co-Lab Creative

 

Based in Detroit, Co-Lab Creative is an interdisciplinary group formed to initiate creative, educational projects that address social inequity and ecological distress. Our projects emphasize community involvement and involve Detroit youth at a variety of ages. Current projects include schoolyard gardening and grassroots product design. The goal is to create beautiful, well-crafted, quality designs and places that express respect for humanity and the natural environment.

 
 
 

Dads From Day One

 

About The Program: Dads from Day One (DFD1) is a program for fathers and their newborn child(ren). DFD1 partners with the community in Wayne County to help dads become involved with their child(ren) at birth. A strong bond between dad and his child will support the healthy growth and development of that child. As a father, it will be the most important relationship of your life. Detroit Agricultural Network

 

Pax Christi Michigan works to bring about peace locally, nationally, and globally through prayer, study, and action. We are rooted in spirituality, dedicated to studying issues of justice from the vantage point of all those involved, and espouse working for peace with justice through nonviolent conflict resolution.

 

Detroit Asian Youth Project

 

Through the Detroit Asian Youth Project, Hmong American and other Asian American youth in Detroit develop leadership skills and awareness of their identity, community, and social justice issues. DAY Project has had two successful summer intensive programs as well as a weekly mentoring program focused on preparing for college. The youth often collaborate with Detroit Summer on community projects.

 

Detroit Bioneers

 

Our Mission Founded in 1990, Bioneers is a nonprofit organization that promotes practical environmental solutions and innovative social strategies for restoring the Earth and communities. "It's All Alive, It's All Intelligent, It's All Connected." Bioneers offers pragmatic solutions that honor the living web of the natural world as the most fertile source of inspiration and models. It's all alive.
